“The College Board developed the Advanced Placement Program…by using the Advanced Placement Program the schools can prepare students from all walks of life to be ready for college and further educational endeavors.” The Pre-AP classes are designed to develop a set of strategies that will make students more successful in high school programs and in preparation for college.”

Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome to Pre-AP Science! 2011-2012 is going to be a very exciting year because of you!  I hope you will share in our enthusiasm for the rigor of learning and being prepared to make an important contribution.  Here are some general topics that we will be covering this year:

·         The Nature of Science
·         Biological systems and their relationships, heredity and reproduction, and homeostasis
·         Properties of matter
·         Newton’s Three Laws of Motion and energy
·         Space and Earth Science
·         The Science Fair (more information and dates to come)

Daily Requirements:

Paper, Pens, Pencils (I do not keep extras) are require daily!
A POSITIVE attitude!   Everyone can and will succeed and you will be held to a high standard!

Procedures:

Bell Ringer:  Every class period begins with a bell ringer assignment.  Come in, get to your set, and complete the bell ringer in the first 3 minutes of class.
Class Room and Lab Notes:  The notebook will be your responsibility to keep. At the beginning of each class period, after completing the bell ringer assignment, write the daily objective and date in your notebook.
Homework:  Homework will NOT be given every night, but when it is assigned it will be on the white board beneath the objectives for the day.  Homework points count as follows:  10 points for completing the homework with a reasonable attempt, 7 points for completing at least half of the homework assignment with the correct answers.  If the homework is not completed you will be entered into the ZAP program for the day.
Absence:  If you are absent you will need to get any notes, worksheets, and homework assignment from the appropriate folder.

My Expectations:

·         Respect the teacher as outlined in the Student Handbook and by me.
·         Respect others:  Property, ideas, values, listen while they speak, and treat others how you want to be treated.
·         Work to be completed, turned in on time, neat, and organized.
